New Family-Friendly Tecumseh Corn Festival Starts Friday

A sign that summer is almost over and school will start soon is the Tecumseh Corn Festival which begins Friday in Lacasse Park.

This year the event will stretch over three days, wrapping up Sunday evening.

Friday is Seniors' Day so seniors can get in for free and sample corn at no charge.

It is Family Day on Saturday, which kicks off with the annual parade starting at 11am.

The manager of recreational programs and events with the Town of Tecumseh, Kerri Rice, says there are over 40 floats this year.

"One exciting entry that we have is the Canadian Pacific's award-winning Puffer Valley Express miniature train," she says. "It's a quarter-scale model of a real steam locomotive, and it's going to be in our parade."

The annual Miss Tecumseh Corn Festival pageant is set for Sunday afternoon.

One feature from past years that will not be part of this year's festival is the beer tent.

After last year's event, Tecumseh Town Council reviewed the festival's operations and decided that with increasing insurance costs and the addition of other festivals in the region, including the Taste of Tecumseh Festival, the Corn Festival could do without alcohol.

"We're encouraging people to come out to our festival and enjoy all the activities, and then go out to one of our restaurants and establishments and enjoy some wonderful food and delicious beverages there," says Rice.

Admission for those over the age of 12 is $3.
