Windsor Man Charged In Weekend Kidnapping

A Windsor man faces multiple charges after an incident involving kidnapping and extortion.

Windsor police say it happened Saturday morning in Sandwich Towne. The complainant told officers that a man called him, saying he was holding his friend for ransom.

Officers went to an apartment building on Mill St. near Wyandotte St. W. around 10:15am Saturday and heard screams coming from inside. Police went in and found the victim and suspect together. The suspect was placed under arrest while the victim was not physically hurt.

The investigation uncovered the fact that the two men knew each other and lived in the same building. They spent time together the night before in the victim's apartment. The suspect demanded money from the victim at the time, but the victim could not pay, and they went their separate ways. The suspect returned a few hours later, forced the victim back into his apartment, and then allegedly threatened and assaulted him. The suspect then called the original complainant to demand money in exchange for the victim.

The 56-year-old man is charged with break-and-enter, kidnapping, robbery, two counts of assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, extortion, assault and uttering threats.
