Environment Canada says last month was one of the driest Julys ever in the Windsor area.
Meteorologist Gerald Cheng says it nearly broke a record if not for July of 2001, which got just a measly 38 mm of rain. He says we received 42.8 mm of rain for the whole month but 29 of those came July 31.
Cheng says a lot of lawns are very brown and recovering from the lack of rain.
"The brown and yellow grass, they don't really look nice at all," says Cheng.
Cheng says the average rainfall for July is 89.2 mm, which is double what we got last month. Cheng says it hasn't been this dry for a long time.
"Last year, we had 69mm in Windsor for the month of July. So, that was also below average but it wasn't that bad and then the year before, 2016, we were right at average," he says.
Cheng says the air flow is changing and sometimes the rain goes around the Windsor area to London.
"We didn't have a flow that imported a lot of moisture into the area and the thunderstorms that rolled through just didn't get Windsor," says Cheng.
