Windsor's Ward 7 councillor is asking his ward to elect him for another term.
Irek Kusmierczyk has officially turned in his nomination papers, declaring his candidacy in the October municipal election.
Kusmierczyk is seeking a second full four-year term. He was first elected to council in a 2013 by-election, then won the seat in his own right the following year.
With the Friday nomination deadline looming, Kusmierczyk becomes the latest council incumbent to ask for another four years. Within the past few days, Ward 10 Councillor Paul Borrelli and Hilary Payne in Ward 9 have filed for re-election.
There are currently two challengers for the Ward 7 seat; Businessman Angelo Marignani, who lost to Kusmierczyk four years ago, is trying again, and Albert Saba.
The only council incumbent who has not made their intentions known is Ward 3's Rino Bortolin, who unsuccessfully ran as a Liberal in the June provincial election for the Windsor West riding. Ward 8 Councillor Bill Marra has already announced he will retire from municipal politics.
Candidates have until 2pm on Friday to submit their nomination forms.
