A portion of a Windsor block has been evacuated after a suspicious device was found in a home.
Windsor police said it happened around 2:30pm Thursday at a home on Gladstone Ave. and Ellis St. E.
Eleven-year-old Joshua Ristanovic was the one who found the device.
"My mom and I, we were gutting out our basement so that we could bring our bedroom down there. We were pulling out a big cabinet, and then I saw what looked to be a grenade," said Joshua.
Joshua knew it was too big and heavy to be a toy. He showed it to his mother, and both were taken by surprise.
"I handed it to my mom, gently," said Joshua. "She said something I can't really say."
Police said the device was a hollow-made grenade. Windsor police's Explosive Disposal Unit was called in to determine if the device had been decommissioned. Police officials have since said the possible grenade has been "proven safe".
Emergency crews remained at the scene until just after 5pm. The area has since been reopened to traffic.
