Marchand Resigns From Chamber of Commerce

A prolific member of Windsor's business community is stepping down as head of the local chamber of commerce.

The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce said in an email Friday night that president and CEO Matt Marchand is resigning, effective Tuesday.

Marchand recently announced his intention to run for mayor of Windsor in the October municipal elections. He had been the head of the chamber for six years.

As previously announced, Dr. Janice Forsyth will take over as acting president and CEO.

"As a past-chair of the chamber, we are confident Janice, with the support of the chamber board and staff, will continue to effectively serve the needs of our members and the Windsor-Essex region," said the email, signed by the chamber's board of directors.

The board is not commenting further, citing privacy concerns on personnel matters.

Marchand announced his candidacy for mayor almost two weeks ago. He joins three other confirmed candidates in the field. Incumbent Drew Dilkens has yet to announce his plans.
