Windsor police have been cleared by the Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) after a man was bitten by a police dog.
The SIU says on February 5, 2017, police were called about a man entering a home on York St. through a window. Officers called the man when they arrived but the SIU says the suspect didn't answer. That's when a police dog was released and the 45-year-old man was arrested in the attic.
The complainant said he received numerous puncture wounds and damage to his upper left arm. He was treated at hospital and was diagnosed with permanent damage to the left arm muscle and the arm has been disfigured by the injury.
The SIU has determined there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against any officer in relation to the dog bite injury sustained by the man.
The man's lawyer reported the injury on May 4.
The homeowner had given the man permission to be in the house and the suspect was not charged with break and enter, but he was held on outstanding arrest warrants.
