Amherstburg residents are invited to tell the Ontario Civilian Police Commission what they think of a proposal to have the Windsor Police Service take over policing in their town.
There is a public meeting at the Libro Credit Union Centre in Amherstburg Tuesday. The first session started at 9am and continues until 4:30pm. Tuesday evening, a second session runs from 6pm to 9pm.
The Commission is currently reviewing the proposal which would have police officers in Amherstburg work for the Windsor service. Amherstburg's police chief and deputy chief would assume administrative duties with the service in Windsor.
The town has held some public meetings already, some of which have been tense. In the past, residents have worried the switch will result in a lower quality of service.
A 20-year agreement is also expected to save the Town of Amherstburg $567,000 a year with cost parity projected to begin in the sixth year of the deal.
