The Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) has approved its budget for the school year starting in September.
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $534-million package budget for 2018-2019 at a special meeting on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Business Cathy Lynd called the operating budget of $459,676,635, plus a capital budget of $75,223,235, a "good news budget” with “no significant changes” from the previous year.
The budget includes an increase in spending to add 54 new teaching positions, eight early childhood educators and 29 educational assistants.
The GECDSB is also projecting enrolment increases for the 2018-2019 school year of 482 elementary students and 217.5 secondary students.
