Could two temperature records in a row fall in Windsor?
Environment Canada says that could be possible as a heat warning continues to blanket the region in stifling heat and humidity.
The record for June 17 has fallen. The weather agency says the reading taken at Windsor Airport was 34.8 C at 5pm. The previous record was 34.1 C, set for the date in 1994.
That made Windsor the warmest spot in Canada for Sunday.
Warm and muggy conditions remain in the forecast for at least Monday, with the heat warning in effect through at least Monday night.
The record for June 18 in Windsor is 34.5 C, set in 2007, but the forecast as of Sunday afternoon called for a high of 31 C for Monday. Humidex readings, however, may once again break the 40 C mark.
With the heat warning ongoing, Environment Canada says the risks of heat-related illness are higher for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic diseases and people working or exercising outdoors.
Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
Seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, swimming pool, shower or bath, or air-conditioned spot like a public building.
Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle, even with the windows down. Temperatures inside a car parked in direct sunlight can reach dangerously high levels within a few minutes, resulting in severe illness and even death.
A cold front is expected to move in late Monday night, providing some relief for the rest of the work week.
