Credit Card Scam Hits Windsor Businesses

Windsor police are warning merchants about a credit card scam.

The Financial Crimes Unit says it's getting more complaints involving fraudulent credit card use. Investigators say businesses discover the credit card information is not valid but not until after the product is already out the door.

They say a customer calls a business asking to buy an item, likely electronics, and gives a fraudulent or invalid credit card number. The customer then arranges to pick up the item either in person, or arrange a cab to pick it up then have the cab deliver the product to a courier which may send the product anywhere.

Windsor Police is reminding merchants to use caution when accepting credit card information over the phone for transactions.
