New Cardiac Rehab Services Available In Windsor

A new cardiac rehabilitation centre in Windsor-Essex is giving patients another option for rehab after a heart attack.

According to local statistics, more than 1,000 patients experience a cardiac event, usually a heart attack each year. Only around 600 of those can access the publicly funded cardiac rehab program in a timely manner.

That's why Dr. Roland Mikhail helped to start the Windsor Essex Rehabilitation and Wellness Centre.

"We know that implementation of rehabilitation programs shortly, that is within one to two weeks after an initial cardiac event proves to be the most valuable in terms of being able to improve that survival benefit," says Mikhail.

At the centre, they prescribe exercise and other educational classes to help patients recover from or prevent cardiac health issues.  Patients need a referral from their family doctors to access the services.

The clinic was opened on a trial basis last April and has seen approximately 200 patients since that time. It celebrated its official grand opening on Wednesday.
