The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board has signed off on $1.1-million to modernize performance space for students taking a course in the performance arts.
Vince Ferro Construction had the lowest bid at $1,142,050, so it will create a 4,000 sq ft theatre space at Assumption College Catholic High School. It will include a contemporary stage, a mixing and sound booth, and seating for 200 people.
Director of Education Terry Lyons hopes the theatre will be ready by next September.
"Arts and culture are an extremely important part of any complete educational experience, and it's essential to have the necessary accommodations for our students to learn in these disciplines," he says.
"It will be a wonderful place for our students to develop their performance skills and for members of the broader community to see first-hand the level of talent we have at the school," says Wards 2 and 9 Trustee Fabio Costante.
Seven bids were submitted to the school board for consideration.
