Wind And Rain Could Cause Flooding

With heavy rain and wind in the forecast, the Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for the region.

Sustained wind speeds of 25-45 km/hr could result in flooding, shoreline erosion, and damaging waves along portions of Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair.

The authority says the areas most likely to be significantly affected along Lake Erie are the southeast shoreline in Leamington between Wheatley Harbour and the top of Point Pelee, and the north and east sides of Pelee Island. Along Lake St. Clair the areas most likely to be affected are the western parts of Lakeshore and Tecumseh and the eastern parts of Windsor.

With 25-50 mm of rain in the forecast, there is the potential for the accumulation of standing water in low lying areas throughout Essex County. The heaviest rain is predicted to occur Saturday night.

The flood watch will remain in effect until Monday morning. The authority says the watch may be upgraded to a warning Saturday based on the weather forecast.
