Woman Accused of Cheque Fraud

A Windsor woman is facing charges after allegedly stealing and forging cheques.

The woman was initially arrested by Windsor police on Wednesday after being identified as a suspect in the theft from mailboxes at an apartment building on Glengarry Ave.

While she was in custody, the Financial Crime Branch identified her as the suspect in a separate complaint. In March, a local company reported that a chequebook was stolen and someone fraudulently cashed multiple cheques worth over $5,000.

After reviewing evidence in the case, police were able to positively identify the suspect as the same person who was in custody.

The 29-year-old is now facing charges of mischief under $5,000, theft from mail, fraud, uttering forged cheques, possession of stolen property and breach of recognizance.
