The Windsor-Essex Transgender and Allied Support organization has a new space to offer services to the community.
The space at 111 Wyandotte St. W will provide peer support, service navigation, employment support, and youth services for anyone identifying as transgender or gender non-binary. It's the first dedicated space in the community for Transgender-specific services.
"We've spent a couple years building a family, so the family is there, but we definitely needed a place to call home," says Carver. "We've had great community partners allowing us to use their space over the last few years, but we've really moved in a direction that space of our own is much needed."
The organization has keys in hand but plans to do some renovations before fully opening its doors. They expect to be up and running by the end of April.
The 1000 sq ft space will offer programs for the trans community, their families and allies. They expect to support around 150 people a month, but Carver says that number is very fluid.
