Spits Top Sting 6-2 In Game 1 (GALLERY)

The Windsor Spitfires hammered the Sarnia Sting 6-2 in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series on Friday.

After a scoreless first period, William Sirman and Cole Purboo both scored for Windsor early in the second.  The Sting scored one of their own just after the 11 minute mark to cut the lead in half, but Igor Larionov added another goal for Windsor to give the Spitfires a 3-1 lead heading into the third.

Zach Shankar scored 3:34 into the final frame to extend Windsor's lead again, while Sarnia fought back to score their second of the night with just over four minutes left to play.  Purboo sand Jake Smith each scored once in the final minute to cap off the win for the Spits.

Spitfires goaltender Michael DiPietro made 43 saves out of 45 shots on net.

The two teams face off again in Game 2 on Saturday in Sarnia. The puck drops at 7:05pm.
