UPDATE: Open Burn Cause of Oldcastle Fire

An unattended open burn is blamed for a St. Patrick's Day fire in Tecumseh.

Tecumseh Fire and Rescue confirmed Sunday afternoon that the fire in a brushy area behind the Adesco plant on Ure St. in Oldcastle was caused by a burn that was not monitored.

Specific damage estimates have not been released, but fire officials say a large patch of grass was destroyed by the fire, along with five vehicles and two 53-foot transport trailers that were parked in that area.

Crews were called to the scene late Saturday afternoon after passersby noticed a working fire and a large plume of black smoke rising over the area.

The fire was brought under control within the hour but not declared out until 7:30pm, due to the appearance of hot spots in the brush.

There were no injuries.

There is no word on whether charges will be sought in the incident.
