Province Supports Expansion At Five Local Manufacturing Plants

Five Windsor-Essex companies are receiving funding through the Southwestern Development Fund that will help to create 168 new jobs in the region.

The total investment from the province equals around $3.5-million.

Reko International in Lakeshore is investing nearly $14-million to expand its facility and invest in advanced equipment and technology. A grant of $1.5-million from the province will help support the project. It's expected to create 30 new positions in the company and retain 200 jobs. The expansion is expected to be complete in August 2021.

Tool and Die company Jahn Engineering is also expanding its facility and buying new equipment. The company is investing over $6-million to purchase a new thermal forming oven and hydraulic press. The province is supporting the project with a $602,456 grant. The project is expected to create 80 positions and retain 80 more. It's expected to be finished by January 2021.

Technicut Tool, a manufacturer in aerospace and defence is investing $3.7-million in its Windsor based company to purchase new equipment. A $661,722 grant from the province is helping to support this expansion. It's expected to create ten new jobs and retain 41.

Uni-Fab, one of Ontario's largest metal fabricators is investing nearly $5.4-million in new equipment to expand production capacity. The province is chipping in $585,970 to the project. The expansion is expected to create 33 jobs and retain 129 current positions.

Finally, Windsor Industrial is expanding its production capacity and diversifying is primarily auto client base to include food processing and mining. The company is investing nearly $1.7-million in the expansion. The Southwestern Development Fund is providing $185,700. The project is expected to create 15 positions and retain 57.
