NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says she has plans to improve health care throughout the province should the party get elected in June.
She wants to put more money into front-line care, reduce hospital overcrowding and create a dedicated ministry for mental health and addictions.
Horwath says they will find the money in the budget by setting new priorities.
"It's not a matter of robbing Peter to pay Paul, it's a matter of prioritizing every decision that government makes so that people are at the centre of all those decisions," says Horwath.
She used Hotel Dieu-Grace Health Care as the backdrop for her visit today. She says if the NDP get elected she'll make sure the hospital gets operational funding for the 89 beds that currently sit empty.
Horwath also wants to implement a province-wide pharmacare program.
"Everybody should be able to get their prescription drugs covered. It should be part of our medicare system. We're the only jurisdiction that has a medicare system that does not have a companion pharmacare or prescription drug system in place," says Horwath.
She says a full party platform outlining all of the party's priorities will come out in the coming weeks.
