A student in Tecumseh is going to Queen’s Park to be a page.
Tamsyn King, a Grade 7 student at École élémentaire Catholique Sainte-Marguerite-d'Youville, has been chosen to serve as a page at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in Toronto. She will serve as a messenger on the floor of the Legislative Chamber, meet key parliamentary figures and learn about Ontario’s parliamentary system of government during her term.
King's term will last two weeks beginning on March 19.
The 12-year-old earned her spot in the program by submitting an application that included an essay outlining her achievements, involvements and suitability for the program.
Pages are involved in several activities, including delivering messages, documents, and water for the 107 MPP’s in the Chamber, taking classes in the legislative process, and mathematics.
The Legislative Page Program is open to students in Grades 7 and 8 who have an interest in current affairs, have an academic average of 80% or higher, and get along well with their peers and adults. Each year approximately 140 young students from across Ontario are selected to participate in the Legislative Page Program.
Pages receive $15 a day.
