Kingsville will officially fill the vacancy on its town council Monday night.
Kingsville elects its councillors at large and with five seats available, John Driedger came in sixth in the 2014 municipal election with 1,462 votes.
Sandy McIntyre announced her resignation last month due to health and family concerns, leaving the council with two options: either hold a byelection or appoint the runner-up from the last vote.
Earlier in September, councillors rejected the byelection option saying at the cost of approximately $50,000, it would be too expensive. It also turned down the option of taking applications from the public for the vacancy.
That paved the way for Driedger to accept the seat if he was still interested.
Driedger will be sworn in Monday night.
The last time Kingsville has had to fill a vacancy on council was in 2011 when Beth Riddiford was appointed.
