Reminder To Deter Theft By Locking Your Vehicle

A Windsorite has found out the hard way why you never leave your vehicle unlocked, and police are looking for a suspect after a theft downtown.

On August 25, a citizen flagged down a police officer to report that a man had just stolen a wallet from their vehicle.

They had parked the vehicle behind a business in the 400-block of Ouellette Ave., unlocked and with the engine running. They were going into a business and expected to be back momentarily.

Fortunately, the theft was caught on surveillance video.

Now, police have released a photo taken from the video and ask the public to help identify the suspect.

Police describe the man as white, 5'8" with a slim build. He was last seen riding a mountain bike.

Police recommend drivers always lock their vehicle up and take the key with them, never leave valuables in plain sight but rather lock them in the truck, take valuables with you, and never leave your vehicle running unattended.
