Hospital To Remove Designated Smoking Area

The hospital is reminding patrons that as of January 1, 2018 smoking will not be permitted anywhere on hospital property.

The designated smoking area on both the Met and Ouellette campuses will be removed as new provincial legislation comes into effect.

Hospital CEO David Musyj is asking staff and visitors to be mindful of the community.

'We can ask, we can plead, we can request but we have no ability and neither does the health unit to stop someone smoking on a public side walk," says Musyj.

The hospital is looking for volunteers for its Green Team to help keep the hospital campus and surrounding area clean as the new legislation comes into effect.

If anyone is caught smoking on hospital property they could be ticketed.
