A Windsor man is facing multiple charges following an incident early Sunday.
Police say officers were called around 5am to a duplex on Windermere Rd near Tecumseh Rd E on a report of a man brandishing a knife and behaving erratically. Witnesses tell police there was shouting and banging noises going on from within one of the units.
It turned out that a female was being forcibly confined within the unit, according to Windsor Police Cst. Andrew Drouillard. Officers on scene noticed the man begin throwing objects from the balcony of the duplex, one of which struck a police cruiser. After police were unable to talk the man into leaving, the situation was declared a barricaded person incident and officers from the WPS Emergency Services Unit were called to the location.
Soon before 8am, the man climbed onto the roof of the duplex and officers were able to enter and rescue the female inside. The suspect was then arrested.
The 30-year-old man is facing charges of forcible confinement, utter threats, mischief and weapons to dangerous public peace.
The investigation is ongoing.
