Windsor police have made an arrest in a three-year-old sexual assault case.
On Tuesday, police arrested 39-year-old Nidal Hamade on two counts of sexual assault and one count of break and enter in connection with an incident that occurred back in September 2014.
In the early morning hours of September 28 of that year, police were called to a home on California Ave. just off College Ave. Two people in their 20s told officers they were sleeping in the house when they were sexually assaulted. One of them awoke and confronted the man, who fled. A rear window to the home had its screen removed and a television set was missing.
DNA samples were taken from both victims after the incident and sent to the Centre of Forensic Science for analysis. Police say there was no match at the time, but confirmed that both DNA samples came from the same suspect.
No match was discovered until last week, when Windsor police were told that a DNA sexual assault profile matched a suspect from a recent home invasion in Windsor. The suspect was convicted in May of a break and enter and his DNA was sent off for comparison. The profile matched the DNA samples from the 2014 incident.
Police say Hamade was arrested without incident.
