Ouellette Streetscaping Approved

Streetscaping along Ouellette Ave. between Wyandotte and Elliott will move forward despite being $1.1-million over budget.

The project includes repaving of the road, re-doing the sidewalks, and adding aesthetic features in line with the rest of the downtown core.

The street furniture and lighting fixtures are among the reasons the project is above estimated costs. These features were included in previous streetscaping designs and the elements have now increased in price.

"All that continuity all the way down the block, with huge sidewalks, lots of space to animate the pedestrian activities, it will be a gorgeous space," says Ward 3 Councillor Rino Bortolin.

The project will cost a total of $6.8-million. A portion of the above estimated funds will come from the 2018 five year capital budget plan if the overage cannot be covered by the 2017 budget variance. Work is expected to start this year and continue into 2018.
