While non-residential construction is seeing a boom across Windsor-Essex, residential construction fell for the third straight month.
According to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, ground broke on 81 single-detached homes and 41 multi-unit homes in July, a decrease of 9% from July 2016.
So far this year, housing starts are down 8% compared to the period of January to July of last year.
Residential construction was especially strong in 2016. By this time last year, housing starts were up 69% from the same period in 2015, and up 38% from July 2015.
Across Canada combined single-detached and multi-unit starts were up 14% in July, and 3% in Ontario. Year-to-date data says national housing starts have increased 9%, and 3% provincially.
