Lakeshore Company Embarks On $5.5M Expansion

A $5.5-million expansion at Reko International in Lakeshore is expected to create jobs, but the company is not saying how many at this point.

About 200 people already work at the Silver Creek Industrial Dr. plant, which specializes in automation for the auto industry, along with tooling and custom precision machining for critical parts.

While other companies are threatening to leave Ontario because of high hydro costs, Chief Financial Officer Marilyn Crowley says the company is not going anywhere.

"We still see opportunities here," she says. "The prevalence of skilled workers, our history in the area."

The company has made its home in Lakeshore for the past 41 years, and although it has increased its capacity in the past, Crowley admits it's their first expansion in some time.

Ground breaks on the 40,000 sq ft expansion for its automation division in a couple of weeks and should be complete by March 2018.
