There is a blood drive Wednesday, August 2 in Leamington inspired by a 12-year-old Cottam Boy who is recovering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Alex Archer was first diagnosed when he was just three-and-a-half years old. He was brought into remission the first time at Children's Hospital of Western Ontario in London after undergoing chemotherapy.
However, the disease was not done with him.
Alex relapsed twice before doctors at SickKids Hospital in Toronto recommended a bone marrow transplant.
He received the transplant on June 1 and is currently staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Toronto after a stint in the transplant isolation unit.
Throughout his illness, Alex has needed dozens of blood transfusions, so that is why his mother, Leamington dentist Dr Karen Archer is hosting a blood donor clinic.
The clinic at Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex starts at 1pm and wraps up 5pm.
