Masse, One Of Three Olympians Racing Friday

Windsor's Kylie Masse is one of three Canadian Olympic Champions racing Friday night at the FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Both Masse and Hilary Caldwell are taking part in the women's 200m backstroke semifinal.

Masse became a world champion and won a gold medal in the women's 100m backstroke earlier this week.  She also won a bronze medal in the 4X100m relay.

"The 100 has always been more of my main focus," she says. "But, I've been working on the 200 more. I felt a bit heavy in the water, hopefully, after some rest, I'll be ready to go tonight. I'd be happy with a best time."

Masse won a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in 100m backstroke in 2016.

Caldwell won a bronze medal in the women's 200m in Rio and is ranked sixth going into the semifinals.

"I did what I needed to do," says Caldwell. "It's a 200 back, so it always feels pretty hard."

Also in action, four-time Olympic medallist Penny Oleksiak. She'll race in the 100m freestyle final and the 50m butterfly semifinal.

She sprinted to tenth place in this morning's 50m butterfly preliminary, finishing 25.87 seconds.

Oleksiak is also going into the 100m freestyle final and is ranked sixth after Thursday's semifinal.
