Masse Launching Fraud Awareness Campaign

Windsor-West MP Brian Masse is launching a new awareness campaign to help protect people from fraud.

Masse says every year the people of Windsor-Essex are defrauded of $1.5-million. In total, it's estimated that Canadians lose $150-million each year to fraudsters.

That's why Masse is starting the education campaign in Windsor-West, delivering information pamphlets to each of his constituents and making information about scams available on his website.

He says he'd also like to see government play a larger role in protecting the public.

"We are looking at some stricter fines and I'm looking at creating more of an action or investigative body that's much more serious related to fraud," says Masse.

After consultation with the public he'd like to develop new legislation and have it in place by the end of the year.
