The Ontario Provincial Police has laid charges after a minivan plunged off a 60 ft cliff and landed in Lake Erie.
Police say it happened around 9:30pm Thursday night at the end of Baldwin Rd. south of County Rd. 50 in Essex. There is a sharp curve at the end of Baldwin.
A woman jumped into the water to check on the driver who was later transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police provided medical care at the scene until paramedics and firefighters arrived.
Essex Fire and Rescue Services Chief Rick Arnel says firefighters had to help him back up the cliff.
The driver was alone at the time, and officers say he man appeared to be impaired.
The unnamed suspect faces charges of refusing to provide a breath sample and impaired operation of a motor vehicle. His license has also been suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
