Humane Society 'Looks Into' Sheep Float

The executive director of the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society says "investigating is a little strong," but the agency is looking into a complaint about live sheep used on a float in Windsor's Canada Day parade.

The sheep were part of the display on a float organized by the Christian phone directory business, Shepherd's Guide.

The float caught the attention of a local animal activist who posted a photo of it on Facebook, garnering attention by others in the city.

Officials at the Humane Society have viewed a video of the float and admit it was hot Canada Day, but Melanie Coulter said there was shelter provided for the animals.

"I don't expect we'll find any violations," she said.

Coulter said the humane society was tagged in the Facebook post, but the agency did not receive any actual complaints.

Dave Szusz, with Shepherd's Guide, told BlackburnNews.com over the weekend the sheep were not mistreated.

"If they took a close look at it, they will see that I was very careful in building a float that had a cover over top of it, a roof," he said. "As the Bible says we are the sheep of Jesus. He is our shepherd, and this was just another way of displaying our beliefs."
