Essex Windsor EMS Now Offering Bike Patrol

Essex-Windsor EMS is assuming the operation of the paramedic bike patrol service in the area.

The service was previously offered by the Windsor Paramedic Bike Patrol Association. The organization disbanded this year and all of its assets were offered to Essex-Windsor EMS.

Chief Bruce Krauter says the service will be offered on a cost recovery basis to festivals and other events.

"We use them for the fireworks night because there's a large crowd, it's a very confined space, we can't get the vehicles through it so we put paramedics on bikes in pairs so they can get to anyone who needs our assistance," says Krauter.

Krauter says they have already started training interested paramedics. The paramedics will be paid for event coverage but it will be done outside of their usual shifts.
