Windsor's Summerfest is going big for Canada's 150th anniversary.
Director of the Windsor Parade Corporation Maggie Durocher is especially excited about an event being held at the Capitol Theatre, called "Canada 150 in Sound and Light."
"It combines live actors, lots of musical accompaniment, and the pictures and video that's been produced is absolutely amazing," she says.
That event will be free to attend and showings will run July 1 and 2.
Summerfest organizers are also trying to assemble a massive choir to sing "O Canada" at the Riverfront Festival Plaza following the Canada Day parade.
You can expect the usual staple events at the festival as well, such as the midway and a fireworks display.
Durocher is also encouraging residents to catch this year's tugboat races, as it could be the last festival to ever feature the event. She says it's been part of Summerfest, and Freedom Fest before it, since 1950.
"The captains of these boats put their boats up and pay for their own fuel," she says. "There comes a time when you just can't do it anymore."
