Getting across Windsor is a challenge already, and it is about to get even more so.
You can not blame drivers for losing their cool as they try to make it from east to west and back again across the city. Several projects are underway including on the EC Row Exwy. between Howard Ave. and Walker Rd., two separate projects on Wyandotte St., Cabana Rd. between Provincial Rd. and Howard Ave., and another on Tecumseh Rd. W.
Work on Riverside Dr. E between Lauzon Rd. and Solidarity Towers is still to come, along with sidewalk work on Ouellette Ave., and on Ottawa St.
"There's a tonne of work," says Mark Winterton, the city's engineer.
And it does not even come close to whittling down Windsor's long list of roads listed as deficient.
"It's an ongoing battle," admits Winterton. "This council has dedicated a lot of resources to trying to improve infrastructure and specifically roads. Definitely, we need more participation from senior levels of government."
A full 20% of city streets need work.
"[That] represents about a little over $300-million worth of need that we have right now," says Winterton.
The City of Windsor is spending about $60-million this year on road projects.
