Improvements to Hwy. 77 near the Hwy. 401 in Comber will begin later this year.
The $6.3-million project by the Ministry of Transportation includes pavement rehabilitation, storm sewer replacement and resurfacing of the Hwy. 401 ramps south of the overpass.
Utility relocations and some work north of Wallace Ave. could begin in the fall of 2017. The majority of the work will be completed in 2018. The MTO gave Lakeshore Town Council assurances that no work will begin before the Comber Fair which uses that stretch of road for the parade.
Traffic will be affected during the time of construction but there will be passage through the area throughout most of the construction period.
Many councilors voiced concerns over truck traffic being diverted to local roads not made for heavy truck traffic. Councillor Len Janisse asked the MTO to commit to fixing local roads if they were damaged due to construction. The representatives could not provide a direct answer.
