Beer Coming To A Windsor Walmart

Starting June 30, you'll be able to buy beer and cider at the Walmart on Tecumseh Rd. E in Windsor.

The provincial government announced the next group of grocery stores that will be allowed to sell beer and cider on Tuesday, following a competitive bidding process.

Right now, up to 130 grocery stores across Ontario are allowed to sell those products. About 70 of them also sell wine. The announcement adds another 76 stores to that total.

By law, the grocery stores will have to have designated sales areas and operate within standard hours of sale, abide by limitations on package size and alcohol content, and meet staffing and social responsibility training requirements.

The Real Canadian Superstore on Walker Rd. in Windsor was among the first group of stores given the opportunity in December 2015.

Four more similar announcements are expected. Eventually, 450 stores across Ontario will be allowed to sell beer and cider, 300 of which will also be allowed to sell wine.
