Something New On The Horizon For Amherstburg

The Honeywell plant in Amherstburg will soon be torn down and the land sold.

Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the last of its operations are wrapping up and the site will be cleaned up completely.

DiCarlo says the owners, the town and the local economic development corporation are working hard to get a buyer.

"It's a very large piece of property. I think they're still committed to try and selling it as one parcel and I think that would work well for the town as well," says DiCarlo.

General Chemical walked away from the site without resolving environmental issues but DiCarlo says Honeywell has done a good job cleaning up the mess and the parcel is ready for sale.

DiCarlo says the land is great and has many things going for it.

"It's an amazing piece of property," he says. "It has highway access, rail access, water access, a water plant with an active permit to take water, co-generation for power."

DiCarlo says getting new industry on that land is one of the big items on his list.

"Trying to find a new industry for that land would be phenomenal for the town. It's something we're working on as aggressively as we can," DiCarlo says.
