LaSalle Police Issuing Warning To Parents

LaSalle police are issuing a warning to parents and teachers following a recent arrest of an alleged drug dealer, that may have left some students "scrambling" to find another source for drugs.

On April 11, officers in LaSalle arrested a 20-year-old Amherstburg woman who was charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking. Police seized 130 capsules of the drug with a street value of approximately $9,100.

"They're looking for other sources now because that one source was taken away and some are going through withdrawal systems and some are looking for other sources and other types of drugs and that obviously is worrisome to us," says LaSalle Constable Harbinder Gill.

Some signs of withdrawal include muscle aches, inability to sleep, restlessness, and excessive sweating.

Gill says parents and guardians should clean out their medicine cabinets of any unwanted drugs and bring them to local pharmacies.

"Let's do some spring cleaning and get rid of some of those unwanted and unused medications in our cabinets... it takes one small step for you to do that," says Gill.

He says the drug problem among students in LaSalle is not any worse then other communities across the country.

"Just to be on the safe side we decided to share this with our community members to say this is what we've heard and we want you to be aware as well. We would be remiss on our duties if we did not let our residents know that this is what's going on in our community," says Gill.
