Windsor-Tecumseh MP Cheryl Hardcastle's first private members bill is looking to make life easier for people living with disabilities.
Right now, someone with a disability has to apply separately for each federal program, and is forced to prove their impairment every time.
"It's very onerous. It's burdensome," says Hardcastle. "But on top of that, it can seem very punitive for these people."
Bill C-348 aims to create a "one-stop shop" which will allow multiple programs to be applied for from one location, or using one set of forms.
As the NDP's critic for persons with disabilities, Hardcastle says she's been working on this bill ever since she was elected.
Now that the legislation's been tabled, it is expected up for first reading in the House of Commons sometime next month.
