High Winds Cause Difficulty At West Windsor Fire

A fire at an abandoned house in west Windsor has been difficult to extinguish due to high winds.

The fire broke out on Sandwich St. W near Chippawa around 1:15pm Tuesday afternoon and fire crews were still on scene attending to hot spots into the early evening.

"It's been stubborn and difficult to extinguish because of the wind and the type of structure. We've protected the exposures on either side," says Chief Deputy Fire Prevention Officer John Lee.

Nearby residents have been asked to close their windows and shelter in place as crews continue to work on the building.

Lee says it's too early to determine the cause of the fire or if it is suspicious.

At any given time throughout the afternoon there were five fire trucks on scene and up to 24 firefighters.
