Heavy Rainfall Prompts Advisory

Following heavy rainfall over the past few days, the Essex Region Conservation Authority is urging the public to use caution around waterways.

The local conservation authority says in the last four days, the Essex region has received between 20 mm to 30 mm of rainfall, which has caused saturated ground conditions and high water levels for many watercourses.

As well, winds are continuing to to gust up to around  30 km/h, which could cause nearshore erosion with wave overtopping and spray. There is also the possibility of breakwall damage.

The areas most affected by the wind include the Lake St. Clair shoreline in Tecumseh and Lakeshore, as well as the Lake Erie shoreline of Pelee Island.

Local residents are urged to use extra caution and avoid rivers, lakes, ditches, streams and ponds, as fast moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards.
