The 35th edition of the Windsor-Essex Easter Seals telethon may not have raised quite as much money as last year's, but the organizers are still pleased.
Over $201,000 was raised during the televised six-hour event.
The money will help financially support the families of children with physical disabilities.
"If you could spend some time with them and talk to them, you realize that the help you give them is very significant," says Easter Seals Chair Ram Sridhar.
Sridhar says the money will go a long way toward helping families buy equipment which can cost up to $40,000 a year.
"The child grows, so all of the equipment has to change," says Sridhar. "That's why if you talk to the ambassadors and you talk to the Easter Seals families, that's why they love Easter Seals."
The local ambassadors for this year are Brigid Kidd and Morgan Bennett-Murphy.
Volunteers gathered at Windsor's Central Park Athletics complex to answer phones, as well as encourage family and friends to pledge as well.
Though the telethon has been going on since the early 1980s, Easter Seals can claim roots in Windsor as early as 1922.
