Firefighters were called to the home at 2306 Olive St., between Adstoll St. and Tecumseh Rd. E, just after midnight.
No one was hurt, but two people have been displaced.
It caused $100,000 damage and the cause is listed as undetermined.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
