Two local women's organizations are getting boosts to their campaigns from Unifor Local 444, for new space to serve women in the community.
The House of Sophrosyne and the Wellcome Centre Shelter for Women are both in the middle of capital campaigns for new buildings hoping to expand their services and reduce wait times.
Karen Waddell with House of Sophrosyne says they've raised close to $900,000 of their $3.5-million goal.
"It will help us to almost double our bedded capacity and to help reduce some of the wait times, because women right now are having to wait five months for our services," says Waddell.
The Wellcome Centre Shelter for Women is also aiming for around $2-million in its Pink Door campaign for a new location in the city.
"We have the blueprints, we have the plans for it we're just looking for that perfect location and the funds to get there," says Kristin Douglas with the Wellcome Centre.
Unifor Local 444 donated $2,000 to each organization in honour of International Women's Day as part of the union's national social justice campaign.
