Unemployment Falls To A New Low In Windsor

Windsor's unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level ever according to labour statistics released by Statistics Canada Friday.

The jobless rate in Windsor was 5.1% in February, down from 5.4% in January. One year ago, it was 7.7%.

Local labour participation rates are currently unavailable because the agency's website is down.

Brantford had the lowest unemployment rate in Canada at 4.2%, while Calgary remained at the top end at 9.4%.

Just up Hwy. 401, London's unemployment rate fell 0.7% to 6.2%.

The national unemployment rate was also at it's lowest level in more than two years last month. It fell to 6.6% down 0.2% as the economy added a net total 15,300 jobs, most of them full-time. Statistics Canada says there were 105,000 new full-time positions, but the gain was offset by the loss of 90,000 part-time jobs.

The national labour participation rate was 65.8%, a slight decrease from the month before.

Unemployment in Ontario stood at 6.2%, down from 6.4% in January.
