Still Assessing Damage And Cleaning Up After Wind Storm

The City of Windsor expects damage totals from Wednesday's high winds to be significant, once everything is added up.

Engineer Mark Winterton says it was a very unique weather event, in that it lasted throughout the day.

"A lot of times we have a storm event, you know like a summer storm or something, that kind of blows through in an hour or so and sometimes those are very isolated," he explains. "This was across the entire city."

Winterton says city crews are out Thursday, still dealing with safety hazards such as large tree branches, signs or traffic lights which could fall down.

He's asking that the public to have patience, as overall clean-up efforts could still take a couple of weeks.

"We're going to deal with safety issues first and then we're going to deal with the aesthetics," says Winterton. "So you might see some piles of branches or some logs on the side of the road, but rest assured that we know they're there and we'll come back and get them."

If you spot something that could be a public safety issue, call 311.
