LED Sign Decision Deferred

A company looking to install a LED billboard on Walker Rd. is looking to strike a deal with the City of Windsor.

Pattison Outdoor Advertising is proposing an 18-month pilot project to hopefully ease councillors minds over concerns over brightness and distractibility .

Sid Catalano with the company says if the city can test the sign's abilities at all levels, it could provide answers to inform any bylaws it makes in the future.

"It's better to see it now, than pass a bylaw and then go 'oops we did that?' And that's sort of the impetus of doing this," says Catalano. "You can do research but if you have that live in front of you, look at what illumination really is, instead of a number on a piece of paper."

Administration is currently working on amending the bylaw city wide and would like to deny the application for the LED sign until the new regulations are in place. It's estimated the new amendments won't be ready for another 12 months.

City councillors deferred a decision until the next council meeting to give administration and the company more time to discuss an agreement.
